Today, in 1544 Torquato Tasso was born in Sorrento.
And his most famous work – the Jerusalem Delivered (1575) – relied on the memory of their homeland, the “sweet native land”:
“… The meadows Country spawning,
pump most of nature, and the hills
who longs for the Tirreno fertile and soft. »
(Jerusalem Delivered, I, 390-92)
« … le piagge di Campagna amene,
pompa maggior de la natura, e i colli
che vagheggia il Tirren fertili e molli. »
